Former Resident Raises Concerns About Environmental Causes

New Jersey High School Sees a Cluster of Rare Brain Cancers

Former Resident Raises Concerns About Environmental Causes

NBC News Correspondent Katy Tur Reports

In a new report, NBC News correspondent Katy Tur speaks with Al Lupiano, a former resident of Woodbridge, New Jersey, and a graduate of Colonia High School. Lupiano has been investigating the incidence of rare brain cancers among people who attended or worked at the high school. He says he has counted 115 such cases, raising concerns about environmental factors that may have contributed to the cluster.

In an excerpt from her new memoir, "Rough Draft," Tur writes about her own experiences growing up in a family of journalists. Her parents, Bob and Marika Tur, were both helicopter news reporters known for their daring coverage of breaking news stories. Tur recounts the many times she accompanied her parents on assignments, witnessing firsthand the dangers and challenges of their profession.

Tur's report on the Colonia High School brain cancer cluster is an important piece of investigative journalism that raises awareness of a serious health issue. It also highlights the importance of environmental protection and the need for further research into the causes of cancer.
